Dr Gerald Kaplan qualified as a dentist at the University of Witwaterstand, Johannesburg South Africa in 1970. He completed his Postgraduate training at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry ( BUSGD) in Boston, Massachusetts where he graduated with a Master of Science in Dentistry in 1977. BUSGD is recognised to be one of the finest schools of graduate dentistry in the United States. Many of its students are leaders in the dental profession throughout the world.
Dr Kaplan was appointed as a senior part–time lecturer in the department of conservative dentistry at the University of Witwatersrand and taught in that position until 1993.
He has been an active member of the executive committee of the Prosthodontic Society of South Africa (PROSSA since 1978). He has served as an executive committee member responsible post–graduate lecture tours for overseas visitors to South Africa. He is the honorary treasurer of PROSSA.
He has been invited on many occasions to participate and present lectures at major dental meetings and study clubs.
